Choir
The choir performs beginning, intermediate, and advanced level literature from various selected eras of musical histories. In addition to the techniques of rehearsal and performance, the students learn the theory and history of the music performed. The director schedules required performances. The course may be repeated for additional credit.
Band
Students will discover the world of music through hands-on work with a concert band instrument. Musical terminology, rhythmic figures and basic reading skills will be learned to further enhance this experience. Instruments are considered a performing group. Students are required to participate in all performances and festivals. Instruments being offered are Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Electric Bass, Percussion, Guitar, Piano/keyboard.
Guitar
Students will receive guidance and direction in solving problems related to playing the guitar on a beginning level and will learn many of the different styles, skills, and techniques required to become a successful musician. Areas of concentration include: correct posture, note reading, aural skills, flat picking, singing songs, rhythmic patterns, chord study, bass playing, finger picking styles, melody construction, musical forms, tablature notation, improvisation, and performing experiences. This elective course for high school may be repeated.
Advanced Guitar
Students will receive guidance and direction in solving problems related to playing the guitar on an advanced level and will learn many of the different styles, skills, and techniques required to become a successful musician. Areas of concentration include: correct posture, note reading in different positions, aural skills, sweep and alternate picking, singing songs, more difficult rhythmic patterns, advanced chord study, bass playing, advanced finger picking styles, melody construction, musical forms, tablature notation, higher level note reading, improvisation, recording compositions on the computer, individual projects/assignments and performing at pep rallies and other musical experiences that arise. This elective course for high school may be repeated.
Orchestra
Students will discover the world of music through hands-on work with an orchestra instrument. Musical terminology, rhythmic figures and basic reading skills will be learned to further enhance this experience. Instruments are considered a performing group. Students are required to participate in all performances and festivals. Instruments being offered are violin, viola, cello, and double bass. (Students must know how to read music notation/theory.)
