I am excited to be the new principal at Barstow Junior High School. I grew up in Barstow and even attended BJHS in the mid-1980s. After graduating from Barstow High School, I attended the University of California, Davis. At UC Davis, I earned a BA in Mathematics and a BA in Economics in June of 1993. The following September, I started teaching and coaching at Barstow High School. I taught math at all levels and even got the opportunity to teach AP Economics for a few years. I coached both football and wrestling for many years, served as the ASB advisor one year, and completed my Master’s degree in Mathematics Education. After 19 years as a teacher and coach, I pursued administration and became one of the assistant principals for BHS.
In February of 2015, I had the opportunity to be the Interim Principal at Barstow Junior High School. I enjoyed and learned from this experience and was named the Principal in June of 2015. As Principal, my goal is to lead Barstow Junior High School towards becoming a National Demonstration School for AVID. I also want to increase the use of technology on campus and transform BJHS into a 21st Century School. I believe that by making these two goals a priority, we will improve students’ tests scores and encourage higher learning.
