“Achieve Positive Results, Have a Positive Attitude”

 

As Principal of Barstow High School, I interact with everyone; one could even say the world. As I talk to students I realize that this may be the future president, a community leader, a teacher, or just one of the millions that makes this country the greatest.

 

As I prepared for this position, I asked myself, “What is it I can give those I meet, including students, parents, the staff at Barstow High, and all with whom I come in contact, that will continue to make our country one of the best?” As I pondered this question, I searched within myself and remembered my years at BHS. What did I walk away with that has brought me back to this position? How have I made it through the good and bad, from being at the bottom to being at the top, and what kept me going? I realized the word “Positive” kept popping up.

 

I remembered the “Positive Attitudes” I received from my parents, teachers, peers, and the people who helped me in so many ways. I then thought that I have had the most success in my life when I have approached a situation with a “Positive Attitude.” The light came on that if you want a “Positive Result,” you have to approach any situation with a “Positive Attitude.”

 

I hope you will come to our campus in person or virtually, and will join in our school spirit and be very “Positive.” It is my goal that everyone who visits will come in a Positive Approach and, if a problem exists, that all will approach the problem with the idea that a Positive Solution is possible. This is only possible if students, parents, and teachers work as a team. I encourage you to be an active member in this process.

 

As I approach year one as Principal, I have four goals. The first three goals are supporting student goals with scheduling, improving attendance, and lowering the drop-out rate. I believe that these are obtainable goals. I also believe that they will help the school raise testing scores because these goals are about focusing on student attendance and achievement, and the students only learn when they are in class. The fourth is the Positive Participation of parents and the community.

 

Barstow High School gave me the start to lead me here, and I would like to see others find their start to the world through the supportive education and experiences they receive at BHS, also.
