Dear Barstow Students, Parents, & Community,
Welcome back to school for the 2015-2016 school year! I want express my enthusiasm to each of you entering the new school year and hope that you have had a wonderful and relaxing summer.
Great Teams in Every School
We have excellent teams of principals, teachers, and support staff in every school working together to use the most effective instructional practices and to strengthen our programs and services. Our schools have the support of a dynamic team of school district leaders and staff who are all committed to offering every student an excellent education.
I encourage parents to attend the orientation or back-to-school night scheduled at your child’s school. Preparing for a new school year can be a little unnerving for parents and students, so we encourage parents to ease the transition from summer break to school by meeting with your child’s teacher and learning what they have planned for this year.
I am excited to report that our School Board has adopted and approved our 2015-2016 Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and we will look forward to its implementation this school year! The LCAP will demonstrate how services and support are to be provided which will improve the performance of all students in the state priority areas. The LCAP describes stakeholder engagement and local goals and actions that are aligned with the state’s priorities as the three-year plan is intended to promote and demonstrate:
- Local stakeholder engagement
- Simplicity
- Transparency
- Performance-focused outcomes
- Equity and support for all students
- Accountability
- Locally defined flexibility
As we work collaboratively to assure that each child in our District receives the best education possible, we need your cooperation. If you have a question or concern, call your child’s teacher. If you need assistance, let the principal know. Also, feel free to contact me about your child’s education. We need your support in following up on what we are doing every day. I hope everyone had a restful summer as we look forward to a successful 2015-2016 school year.
Sincerely,
Jeff Malan
Superintendent
