On January 1, 2014, California Education Code Section 60640 established the CAASPP System of assessments. The CAASPP - CalEdFacts Web page provides a more detailed overview of the system. For 2014–15, the CAASPP System includes the following required assessments:
- Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and mathematics (SBAC)
- Alternate Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and mathematics (CalAlt)
- Science Assessments (CST, CMA, CAPA)
- Standards-based Tests in Spanish (STS)

The 2014 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System paper-based test results for schools, counties, districts, and the state are available at the above site. Test results are reported for the four components of the CAASPP System:
- California Standards Tests (CSTs)
- California Modified Assessment (CMA)
- California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA)
- Standards-based Tests in Spanish (STS)
Important Note: Test results for individual students are available only to parents/guardians and may be obtained only from the schools and school districts where students were tested. Individual student results are not available on the Internet nor from the California Department of Education.
Barstow Unified School District individual student reports were mailed to the students mailing address on file October 2015.

Beginning as early as March 10, 2015, districts administered Smarter Balanced Assessments, computer-based tests aligned with the state's rigorous new standards for English language arts/literacy and math. Smarter Balanced is part of a comprehensive new testing program called California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), which replaces the Standardized Testing and Reporting Program that expired on July 1, 2013
